A Level 1 layout

This is another Level 1 layout from a very old kit called Magic Moments. I did take this Level 1 to the next "level" by adding a stamp set called "Tool Time". All the other embellishments came from the included Stickease. I chose to stamp the images in Dutch Blue and Honey ink. Again, this is a fast and easy way to catch up on your scrapbooking.

"October 2010" with Mayberry

This layout is the alternate layout from the Mayberry Workshop on the Go kit. I changed a few things though to suit my photos and style. Instead of restricting the title to the Goldrush pattern paper on the left, I stamped it across the top. I added the Cocoa grosgrain ribbon so my sentiment of "Family" would stand out and not get lost in all that "white space". Attaching the ribbon to the edge of the page and ending it with a knot grounds the ribbon and the sentiment. Otherwise, "family" would look as if it is "floating in space". The final change I made was adding a photo below the journaling box.

"M & D" with Magnifique

This layout was taken from the Imagine How-To book. It's one of my favorite layouts! I created this using the Magnifique paper pack and the coordinated stamp set. At first glance one would think it wouldn't be suitable for a page about boys, but I think it works nicely here.

Supplies:

Colonial White grosgrain ribbon
Shimmer Brads
Circle of Love stamp set
Chocolate Alpha stamp set
Lagoon, Sky, Pacifica, and Chocolate stamp pads

The entire page was sponged in chocolate ink and each of the photo mats as well. The feathers and flourishes were stamped using the sponge dauber technique and 3 ink colors (Pacifica, Lagoon & Sky). I cut out each embellishment and attached to the page. The title was stamped directly onto the Lagoon cardstock using Chocolate ink and the Chocolate Alpha stamp pad.

"Chalk Boy" with Mayberry Level 1

This is a quick and easy Level 1 page! My only supplies were the Mayberry Level 1 paper pack and adhesive. The journal box on the left side is a sticker and so are the flower groups (next to the journaling and in the lower left corner). The title "Chalk Boy" was created using the included stickers and I trimmed 2 Smoothie cardstock strips to help the letters stand-out from the page. I popped up the word "Chalk" too to help it stand out. The two photos I wanted to stand out are the large double matted photo on the left and the central photo on the right. The large size and double matting help the left photo stand out, but I needed something a little more to help the central photo on the right stand out. I accomplished this by matting it and popping it up with foam tape.

A Pirate Party using Fanfare

This layout design was taken from the Magic How-To book. I added flip flaps on the right-hand page so I could include more photos of the birthday celebration. The embellishments are simple because there are a lot of things going on - lots of photos and bright colored papers.

Supplies:
Fanfare Level 2 paper pack
Life's a Beach Cricut cartridge
Flip flaps
Ahoy Matey stamp set
White Daisy pigment ink
Clear embossing powder
Heat gun

In order to makes the few embellishments I included stand out, I emphasized them using inks and heat embossing. The photo below is a close-up of the skull & cross bones. I added the layers in different colored papers (the cap and the eye patch). I also sponged black ink around the skull to give it definition. It's subtle, but makes a huge impact when compared to a pain white skull.

Next, I stamped the flag in White Daisy ink and embossed with clear embossing powder. This gave is a more faded look but still it stands out against the black paper. I edged distressed the flag randomly to help the "aged" look.

Flip flaps are not only great for adding more photos, but they give you an excellent opportunity to hide journaling or include large amounts! Check out the photo below to see how I used a 4x6 flip flap to house all my journaling for my son's 4th birthday party. It looks small but it's 12 point font.

End page for scrapbook - Lucky

This page was created to fill that single page at the back of an album. I always have a hard time filling in that last page - especially when it ends a year. How do you recap a year in a single page? Well I had this great photo of my "boys" changing the oil of our car. It was actually taken in November of that year, but I figured it made for a great "look how fast you're growing" page.

The title was stamped in the Rustic Alpha font (except the "&" sign) and attached to the page. I stamped the "&" from the Chocolate Alpha stamp set in between the cut-out words...I think it makes it a little more interesting. The journaling box and the embellishment next to it are popped up using foam tape. Since the twill ribbon was laid behind those items, it made it easier to pop up than try and adhere flat.

Countdown to Christmas

Join me on Sunday, November 20th from 2:00-5:00pm and create this fun Christmas project! We will be using our new My Creations Memory Game box and the Believe paper pack. Dreamin' Layout

I created this layout using leftovers from the Dreamin' Mini Album workshop. The pattern was taken from a How-To book. I also used the Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge to create the title. I choose to substitute some of the title letters with pattern paper. If you look at the photo below, you will see the 2 "N"'s in "Swingin'" and the "F" and the "N" in "Fun" were replaced with the Goldrush pattern from the Dreamin' paper pack.

I tied a few of the title letters with hemp for texture as well as the Milepost Shapes (stars). I added Colonial White brads to 2 of the stars to help them stand out from the page. Finally, I added the 1" striped grosgrain ribbon strip and a little loop on the opposite page to tie it all together.

"Oktoberfest" with Lucky

Since this is October and Oktoberfest celebrations are going on, I figured I would show this page I created from last year's Oktoberfest celebration. I used the Lucky paper pack and a few 3D stickers from Jolee's to create this page. This was the alternate layout for the Lucky Workshop on the Go kit.

I followed the included directions to create the layout, but decided to add the Jolee's stickers. I had a cute fall/hay ride theme that fit with the hay ride my husband and son took at the celebration. Then I had to add a few pumpkins and a corn stalk...just because. There is a lot of texture and dimension on this page frm the wood buttons, the hemp, distressed cardstock, embellishments, and photos popped up with Foam Tape.

Mischief Layout

This layout was created using the leftovers from the Mischief workshop. I used one of the patterns in the How-To books and recorded a fun afternoon playing pirate. My son is obsessed with pirates...his birthday party was pirate themed, he dresses like a pirate almost daily, and loves to play with his pirate Playmobil. The designs from the Mischief paper pack work perfectly with a pirate theme - classy but grim.

The edges of each of the large photo mats were distressed using an Edge Distressor and then inked with black ink. The title was cut using the Cricut and then popped up with Foam Tape.

"Boys" with Miracle

This layout was created using a pattern from the Magic How-to book. I love this layout because it features the photos and you can use it with very little paper. It's a great way to use up those extra scraps!

I stamped a border around the left-side of the page and across the top to help focus the eye and ground the layout. The pinwheels were created using the stamp included with the Miracle WOTG kit. I love how they pop off the page! It is a very simple page that was completed quickly...gotta love that when you have so much to complete.

2011 Album title page

I began working on the 2011 album this summer, and I always struggle with the Title Page. It's usually the last page I create with a random photo taken towards the beginning of the year (if it even includes a photo). This year, however, I came across this photo and decided to use it for the Title Page. This layout comes from the Reflections How-To book, and I decreased the photo size so I could accomodate our family name.

My boys are on a kiddie ride at the South Florida Fair that looked like a rocket ship. That is why I chose the Stardust paper pack from a couple of years ago. I had some leftover paper and stickers (I have been trying to use up my stash) that worked perfectly with this photo. A title page idea was quickly born!

The 2011 was cut using the Cricut and the Plantain SchoolBook font cartridge. "Slipcevic Family" was spelled using leftover letter stickers from the Stardust Level 1 kit. I ran out of the letter "i" so I subbed a lowercase "L" and dotted each of the "i"s with a sparkle so you couldn't tell I didn't have enough of the letter "i". The topiary brads came from a leftover pack of Autumn brad colors and they are attached to the numbers and alonside the page. Finally, the sentiment was a leftover sticker from the Stardust Stickease and was popped up using foam tape. If you cover the back of a sticker with baby powder all the "sticky" is removed. This is helpful when mailing a card or placing a popped sticker in an album.

Here is an adorable card inspired by the dragon stamp set called "Birthday Blast". I totally fell in love with this stamp set featured in the Spring/Summer 2011 Idea Book. It includes a fun sentiment like "Hope your birthday is a hot one" and has 3 different dragons and a castle. Since I was inspired, and had some leftover Typset paper, I decided to create this card. The pattern comes from the Wishes How-To book.

I sponge inked the edges of the card in black ink. The dragon is stamped in the Olive ink in 2nd generation. I popped him up using Foam Tape and tied a piece of waxy flax to his hand. I random stamped the confetti background using 2nd generation Vineyard Berry ink. The card flap is held closed by the Twill ribbon which is attached using a glue dot at the knot.

You & Me kit layout

This kit was on special during May (You & Me kit) to celebrate National Scrapbooking Month. It introduced the new cardstock-weight B&T Duos and the new Chocolate Striped Grosgrain ribbon.

This is the more masculine layout and I thought it fit nicely with my son's t-ball photos. However, this was the season he played for the Red Sox and those colors just were NOT working with this layout. The solution? Go Black & White! I played around with Photoshop and added a distressed "filter" to the photo, so when it printed it looked wrinkled from age and use. Fun!

I pretty much followed the included directions to create this layout, so there isn't much additional to say about it. A fun technique you may want to try is sponge-inking your photos. It gives a subtle texture to the edges and makes them fit nicely with distressed layouts. See an up close photo of the "Dreams" banner below.

Disney using Fanfare

This is a layout from our 2010 Summer Vacation. I love the Fanfare paper pack with the Disney themed pages. It's such a fun paper pack so it fits well with anything Disney. Here I was documenting a "down day" of hanging out at the hotel and Downtown Disney. This layout is from the Fanfare Workshop on the Go kit. My favorite embellishment are the balloons created by using the balloon stamp included in the kit, blue buttons, and white embroidery floss.

Typeset Layout

Here is a layout I completed using the scraps from the Card/Card Box workshop. The layout comes from the Magic How-To book. I documented a transformation of our entryway and front room. We have been living in our house for 8 years and the entire time we had this horrid 1970s bamboo mirrored wall in the entry. Those of you who have been over for workshops know this fabulous wall. On a whim my hubby and his friend began removing the mirrored tiles and viola I had a bare wall! Some patching, paint, and a JCPenney sale later we are sporting a nice, classy wall. Yay!

I used 2 of the zip strips from the pattern paper and mounted it on Desert Sand cardstock to create a fun border. The grouped embellishments, like the buttons and the brads, fill-in white space. I sponged some Vineyard Berry ink over the Milepost shapes to give them a pop of color. I also sponged the layout edges with Desert Sand ink.

The title was cut from the Vineyard Berry B&T paper using the Art Philosophy cartridge. I tell you, that cartridge is a life saver here lately for creating titles! Check out the photo below to see how I added the Pearl Opaques to the title and popped it off the page.

Pair-A-Phrase card

Here is a card I created using the Pair-A-Phrase stamp set on special this month. I enjoyed creating this with the scraps leftover from the Card Box workshop. Looking back, I think I should have stamped a background pattern to the center wings of the butterfly. It would give it some texture and interest...maybe next time.

The butterfly is cut and layered using an image from the Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge and I popped it up with foam tape. I sponged the card with Desert Sand ink and wrapped Vineyard Berry ribbon around the card to hold the flap closed. The knot is adhered using a glue dot, but the rest is just wrapped around. The center square used the "notebook" pattern paper from Typeset and was stamped with the swirly stamp from the Pair-A-Phrase set. The sentiment "all you need is love" is from the Pair-A-Phrase set too and I masked the "love" and stamped it with Vineyard Berry so it would stand out.

I added Sparkles to the swirls and the scalloped border to give the card a little "bling". Don't forget to stamp the envelope. It gives a boring envelope a little class and interest!

"Twitterpated" Interactive Layout

This layout came from the Magic How-To book and incorporates one of the interactive aspects. I used the Twitterpated paper pack because the browns and nature theme worked perfectly for scrapping this gorgeous park. I used the Dimensional Elements Color that coordinated with the Twitterpated line, some bamboo brads, natural hemp, and dimensional elements letters and a bracket.

I created 2 embellishment groupings using the color chipboard, brads and hemp. I colored the bracket with Sorbet ink and tied a piece of hemp around the bottom. All of these 3D items help to add texture and lead the eye across the page.

Below is an up close photo of the interactive element of the layout. The Magic book gives you complete instructions on how to create this element and the pattern to use. I used a photo clip in order to hold the flap in place.

Don't forget to use flip flaps whenever you need them. I chose to add one flip flap to this page to hide the journaling and add an extra photo. Flip flaps are easy to use and a great way to add photos to your layout with out wrecking the simplicity. Check out the up close photo below.

Circle card using "A Typface"

I created this circle card using leftovers from the Mischief WOTG kit. The "Good Luck" sentiment was stamped using the A-size font stamp "A Typeface". This is the FREE set available during August with the purchase of the $5 August Stamp of the Month (SOTM) "Wicked" (which I also used on this card). The pattern comes from the Wishes How-To book.

I took the border stamp and curved it around the circle card in order to create the border you see in the photos. The swirl below the sentiment is stamped using the witch's hat from the August SOTM, and the cat is also from the same set. The milepost shape is sponged with Vineyard Berry ink. I added black opaques to the swirls in the border, the cat's eyes, and the sentiment.

I wanted to create a card that wasn't for Halloween, and I thought what a fun play-on-words to have a Good Luck card feature a black cat! I added the sentiment "Put Your Best Foot Forward" from the August SOTM to add to the well wishing. See photo below...

Georgia Aquarium Layout

This is another part of our summer vacation to Atlanta - the Georgia Aquarium. I found this old paper that worked perfectly with this layout. I believe it's called Serendipity and it's patterns flowed like the water in the aquariums...so I had to use it!

Check out my journaling in the right hand column. I cut little strips of paper and added my journaling that way instead of in a regular linear box. How fun is that! I also found the embroidered iron-on patch in my stash and added it. Of course I embellished it by added a sparkle to it's eye. Keeping the sparkle theme, I added sparkles to each of the paper strips to anchor them to the layout so they didn't look as if they were floating on the page. Then again, considering the layout, that may have been cool too. Sparkles were also added to the letters in the title although I'm not sure you can see them in the photo.

The layout is simple in order to give attention to the photos as well as accomodate several of them. The mono-chromatic blues and the neutrals also keep the focus on the photos. I did go a little crazy with the fish patch, but hey, it's my layout and I liked the fishy!

Halloween card using "Wicked"

Here is a fun card I created using the August Stamp of the Month (SOTM) "Wicked". I took inspiration from the card showcased with the August SOTM artwork - using the background technique and the hemp. The pattern came from the Originals How-To book.

One of the techniques I "scraplifted" from the featured SOTM card was the honeycomb stamped background. I wanted a more subtle effect, so I stamped the homeycomb image with the same ink as the paper (Desert Sand). I also used hemp in a natural shade to accent the strip of paper behind the witch.

Below you can see an up close photo of the witch. I stamped her in black ink and then stamped again using VersaMark ink. Next, I added black embossing powder and heat embossed. Finally, I used a blending pen and the Sunset stamp pad to color in the witch's stockings. Since the heat embossing was done first, I didn't have to worry about blending the black ink.

I chose to stamp the witch in black before embossing in case the embossing powder didn't completely cover. That way I wouldn't have any "white space" poking through where it shouldn't. I also knotted the hemp behind the witch and adhered her using foam tape to cover the knot.

Don't forget to embellish your envemopes and the card insides. You don't have to go crazy, but you can still have a little fun...like I did.

Atlanta Zoo

Over the summer, I have been trying to complete several scrapbook pages. This is one of them from our 2010 summer vacation to Atlanta Zoo. It is a very simple layout (as in I needed to get several done quickly) and I only added a few embellishments. You don't have to have lots of embellishments to have a complete and whole layout, you know.

For example, I used a few small word stamps to stamp the word paper in the upper right hand side of the page. Even though the words are in different fonts because they are about the same size and describe the event they work nicely together. I also stamped and cut out 2 bird images to highlight the bird photo and my son feeding the birds. Finally, I stamped and cut out the title using the Rustic alpha font. However, "Zoo" is stamped using the Extreme font set. Oh, and I used the Olivia paper pack because I thought it perfect for a page about being outside at the zoo.

Also, don't be afraid to use the computer to journal. I love using text boxes in Microsoft Word. It works especially nice when you have a lot to say but only have a small space to use. You can adjust your font and text box to fit your journaling area. A typed box fits LOTS more words and sentences than your writing will allow. Don't forget to add your handwrinting on occasion too!

Layout from Magic

This pretty much was a "Scrap your Stash" kind of layout. I have so many leftover papers that I figured why not use what I have rather than opening something new. The pattern is from the Magic How-To program book called Hocus Pocus. I love using the How-To books because they help me get pages done faster and still look nice.

I used 2 B&T Duos from the old Stardust paper pack, a sheet of solid cardstock (actually a couple of leftover sheets), a few brads, black hemp, and some pleated ribbon from the Wings Level 2 assortment. All of the products I used were leftovers from previous projects. I also used my Cricut to cut out the "Day" with the font cartridge that came with the machine (the black paper was even scrap too).

Oldies but goodies...

This summer, my projects included completeing all the journaling in my scrapbooks. You remember...those pages I posted without completed journaling? Gasp! As I was perusing the books, I discovered a few layouts I didn't share with you all. So I figured I add them now...oh and by the way, I finished all the incomplete journaling on my scrapbook layouts :)

This layout is from the 2010 South Florida Fair. I used the You Rock paper pack and the design from the Workshop on the Go kit. The title is stamped using the Rustic alphabet set and the stars are stamps from the Workshop on the Go stamp set. I loved those You Rock Top Coats clear overlays, they made adding embellishments easy.

Next is a layout from the Splendor paper pack and Workshop on the Go kit. It features the Glitz Glitter Gel and the Splendor Irrestitables chipboard. I loved being able to enlarge the photo of my husband and son playing at the beach...it is such a great focal point for this layout. I stamped the title in the Friendship Alpha font, and followed the instructions included with the workshop kit to complete the layout.

The final layout I'm sharing is from several trips to the local nature center. They had a great preschool program that my son loved attending. This layout also uses the Splendor paper pack. For me, that paper spoke of the outdoors and it was one of my favorite paper packs. Although it is hard to tell, I used the bitty brads in 3 colors to fill-in the stamped border on the cloud paper. It gives the layout a fun texture.

"Wings" Layout

I wanted to play with the Spray Pen a bit more after completing the "Wings" workshop pages, so I created this layout using the leftover "Wings" paper.

I figured what better way to showcase photos of my husband and son spray painting a project than incorporating the Spray Pen! This is a great tool to have on hand. The Spray Pens come in packs of 3 and you can mix your re-inkers with water (or a combo of water and CTMH's pearl paint). I love the effect they produce and the fact it is never the same way twice!

My husband and son have father/son days about twice a month, and they go to Lowes and Home Depot to create the kids workshop projects. My son has quite the collection...here they are spray painting a flying bat project. Dylan thought it great fun to wear a plastic trash bag, a face mask, and goggles.

This layout pattern is from the Magic How-To book. Scroll down to see the pages up close and you will be able to see where I sprayed the Vineyard Berry ink mixture. Although, for this page, I chose to use just an ink and water mixture - no paint was added. I didn't think the "pearlized" look would exhibit enough masculinity - ha ha! I also stamped the "You COLOR my world" sentiment with 3 ink colors - Juniper, Vineyard Berry, and Sweet Leaf using the sponge daubers.

T-Ball Tryouts (Level 1 layout)

This is a Level 1 kit - Stardust. The page layout idea came from the back of the included Stickease. I rotated the right-hand page because I had all landscape photos. This layout was fast and easy to put together. I cut the journal box from the included Moonstruck and White Daisy cardstock. I even matted the photo on the left-hand page with White Daisy cardstock too. The only additional item I added was foam tape to pop the "You Rock It" sticker on the right-hand page...oh, and the black pen for writing the journaling.

Quick Tip: When using foam tape on a sticker, coat the back of the sticker with baby powder. The powder will take the sticky away and you can pop up the sticker using dimensional adhesive. This keeps the sticker from attaching back to the page when it's in an album (or if using on a card, when it goes through the mail).

My adorable little man decided to get silly after his T-ball tryouts this past Fall. I was out teaching a Close To My Heart workshop and missed his try outs, but my husband was able to capture these silly moments on "film". He enjoyed posing for the camera in a variety of silly ways. He even did the typical "bat pose" - my personal favorite!

The pattern for this page came from the Imagine How-To book.

Sharing projects

Check out these photos from fellow scrapper Denise Holland. She emailed me with a variety of photos of the projects she recently created. She created several gorgeous frames with poems for her father, friends and family. Her embellishments were basic - ribbons, brads, and paper flowers which kept the focus on the sentiment. I included one of the photos below.

Denise created a few mini-Valentines for her daughter's classmates. She used the mini-Valentine workshop as a base and embellished in her own way. They are so cute too! She used CTMH stamps from the "Just Because" card kit and the "Sweet Baby" sets and a couple of wood stamps from Michael's. Her ink colors were from CTMH in Tulip, Blush, and Black. I love the heart-shaped brads she found!

The following Valentine Cards were for her daughter's teachers and Denise "scraplifted" the design from the February Card Workshop. She used paper and embellishments she had on hand. I love the "balloon string" created from a vine stamp shown in the first card - great way to repurpose an on-hand stamp! I love the sponged background in the last card, too. It's a great way to create a pink background when you don't have pink paper. Great idea!

Her last Valentine Card was inspired by the card shown on page 18 of the Spring/Summer 2011 Idea Book! There are all kinds of ideas in the current Idea Book. From scrapbook pages to altered art, anyone can find inspiration from what is included. Take another look at your Idea Book and try "scraplifting" one of the designs, see how creative you can be with a little inspiration!

These next 2 cards are birthday and thank you cards. The first card shown is a birthday card and the stamp featured is from the "Western Flourishes" stamp set. I love the way Denise traced the flourish with glitter. It adds a subtle sparkle and complements the row of 3 sparkles used toward the bottom. The second card is a thank you card made with paper from the Emporium collection. The circle pattern in the center is made using the "Connections" stamp set. The pattern comes from the Christmas card workshop in the Wishes How-To book.

A little Zoo loving

This layout of our visit to the North Carolina Zoo was created using the Twitterpated paper pack. I love the woodsy feel this paper gives to the photos. It fits perfectly because the NC Zoo is very wooded, as you may be able to tell from some of the photos.

Again, the journaling was temporarily left off so I could complete several pages quickly. I intend on going back and filling in the spaces. The right-hand page has 2 spots for journaling. The upper block I set aside for the date we visited the zoo and the lower block is for the actual journaling.

I used twill ribbon and hemp to accent this page. I tied small pieces of hemp to a few letters in the title (NC ZOO). The letters were raised using foam tape so the hemp could be tied around the letters. I also tied knots in a string of hemp and attached it to the right side of one of the photos. You will see it better in the 2nd photo below.

Summer fun with Family

This layout was from our summer vacation as well. We stopped to visit my brother in North Carolina and hung out for a few days. We watched my nephew play baseball and went to the local park.

I used the Emporium paper pack and created a background pattern with the "Connections" stamp set. I stamped in the same color as the cardstock (Sweet Leaf) and that gave a "watermark" feeling. Although the color was much darker and more obvious than a watermark would be.

Tropical Layout

Here is a layout from our summer vacation. We visited the North Carolina Zoo and I loved the bird aviary. The plants and flowers were beautiful and so were the birds.

I used the Moon Doggie paper pack with the wood paneling paper and the large green leaves. I tried keeping everything neutral so the colors in the photos would pop. Even the title was stamped in Desert Sand ink on Colonial White paper. I did decide to use brightly-colored flower embellishments to blend with the floral theme of the photos.

Title Your Scrapbook

The front of your scrapbook is a single page, and since most of us create double-page layouts, the questions is what to do I do with that space? Create a title! I created a title using simple papers and minimal embellishments. I wanted the focus to be on the actual title.

This is our family album for 2010. I used paper from the retired "Serendipity" paper pack because I loved the colors and design. What I didn't love was how bold the paper was. I solved this by covering the pattern paper with vellum. This softened the boldness and allowed me to add a lighter coordintating color for the title.

I attached the vellum using coordinated Big Brads, not adhesive which would distort the softened image.

The title was cut using the Cricut machine and font cartridge. I added a vellum quote backed with Chocolate paper because I didn't want the vellum quote to sit on top of vellum paper. My embellishements were simple - a few paper flowers accented with sparkles.

Mistletoe Cards

This is another Christmas card workshop I created for a private group. This time the hostess chose to use the traditional colors of Christmas with the Mistletoe paper pack.

The workshop came from the Christmas Card workshop found in the Wishes How-To book. The workshop creates 16 cards, 2 each of 8 designs. Combine this with the Magnifique card workshop and you will have a total of 36 cards!! Wow!

All of the card bases, patterned paper and cardstock were sponge inked for dimension. I used the same color ink as the paper except for the card bases which were inked in Cocoa. Also, all of the poinsettias from the level 2 assortment had Liquid Glass "dew drops" added to make the flowers look more realistic. Take a look at the card from the beginning of the post, you can see I traced the swirls in the tree with Liquid Glass. I also added 3 snowflake brads from the Mistletoe Level 2 Assortment for added dimension.

The Season's Greetings card has a design stamped on the New England Ivy cardstock strip. It is the layering stamp from the "Holiday Trinkets" set. It is intended to decorate the ornament also included in the set. But why limit yourself? Use a stamp in a different way...like stamping a repetative border in the same ink color as the paper.

In this card I chose to stamp "Christmas" repetatively using generational stamping. I also added 2 of the large size Shimmer Brads to the empty space on the left side. Simple. The poinsettia at the bottom balances the large brads.

Talk about simple...this has 3 small pieces of cardstock, an embellishment from the Mistletoe Level 2 Assortment, and a stamped sentiment. I stamped a design on the New England Ivy cardstock using a swirl border stamp from the "A Timer" stamp set. Then 3 sparkles were added from the Blue/Green Sparkles pack. Try stamping the border stamp off the page and at different angles to create the feeling of flow. Gotta love simple! This is the perfect pattern to use if you want to create large quantities of cards!

With this card, I felt there was too much "white" space. Especially, since I had just created the previous card. So, to correct this problem, I took another layering stamp (meant for the ornament in "Holiday Trinkets") and stamped a random pattern in 2nd generation with Cocoa ink. The center sentiment was simply the 4 Christmas trees from "Holiday Trinnkets" stamped in Garden Green and cut-out. I raised 2 of them with foam tape to give a feel of depth. Then 1 tree was coated with glitter, another had green sparkles added, and finally one had drops of Liquid Glass applied. Another thing you can do is replace the pattern paper strip with ribbon and a bow.

Here I actually used the large ornament and a layering decoration from the "Holiday Trinkets" stamp set as intended. You may recognize the ornament's pattern from the previous card...use stamps creatively and they will go a LONG way! The only fun thing I did with this card was to coat the ornament with glitter to make it sparkle.

Try tearing your pattern paper or stamping a border across the bottom of the card. The sentiment is layered over a 2nd generation snowflake and raised on foam tape. Again, try replacing small paper strips with ribbon. It will lend a different feel to your cards...more textured.

I stamped the sentiment and a border stamp using the same color ink as the paper (New England Ivy). Then added bitty sparkles to give a little bling. Notice the 3 brads at the bottom of the card. It has kind of become my trademark...feel like you need a little something else on the card (or scrapbook layout)? Add a row of 3 brads. Simple and effective.

Don't forget to decorate the inside of your card! I used a masking technique with a sentiment stamp from "Peace on Earth" to create the red "Christmas" within the green sentiment. The swirled stamp below is from "A Timber" and in it full form. You saw it previously when I stamped part of it on a piece of cardstock on the "Wishing You..." card.

Teacher Gifts

This is my first year creating teacher gifts. My son is 3 and in preschool for the first time. His teachers are wonderful, and I wanted to create something useful for them. I figured, who wouldn't need a pack of handmade cards? I created a set of 5 cards - 2 birthday, 2 thank you, and 1 congratulations.

The cupcake icing was 2nd generation stamped using Hollyhock ink and then sprinkles were layered using 1st generation ink. I traced the icing with the glitter gel and added bitty sparkles to the cupcake "paper cup" for a little bling.

This card was edge distressed and the star was created by using 2 different stamps. The "star mist" was stamped using 2nd generation Golrush ink and then the star stamped normally over top. I cut out the star and attached using foam tape.

Embossing stylus

The card base was dry embossed using the embossing stylus and the paper trimmer. The lines are scored at 1/2" increments. The remaining card is simple with a single sentiment in a square raised on foam tape.

This card again has 2nd generation stamping behind the sentiment "Thanks". Using 2nd generation is a good way to spruce up the background without taking away the focus - like the word "Thanks" in this example. I added a few sparkles to give a little shine. Since I raised the sentiment on foam tape, I decided to tuck 2 ribbon loops to the edge.

Sparkles

This card is fun because the sender can choose variety of occasions. For example, graduation, wedding, anniversary, etc. One would just check off the event and write a personalized message inside. I included the 2 large square sparkles to give a little interest to the bottom of the card. The sentiment block is quite large and the large sparkles help to balance the layout of the card.

Don't forget your envelopes too! See how I created a small "seal" to the back of the envelope for the "Thanks" card. It's just another fun way to add a little flair to your handmade cards.

Christmas cards a la Magnifique

Just before Thanksgiving, I taught a private workshop for a group of ladies, and we created 20 Christmas Cards. The group decided on the Magnifique paper pack, and I must say the results were awesome! The patterns and colors aren't your typical Christmas colors, but you certainly can make it feel Christmas-y.

I created 10 samples using the "Just Because" workshop found in the Wishes How-To book. However, the cutting pattern was for 20 cards! What a way to get all your Christmas cards out of the way FAST.

Take a look at the card sample from the beginning of this post. I used a 2nd generation masking technique to stamp the 2 trees (the original stamp has a set of 4 trees together). I added sparkles to the one tree for a bit of bling. All the paper is sponge inked in Chocolate, and the "Seasons Greetings" sentiment is stamped in Pacifica (I so love that blue!). I also added 2 of the copper colored Shimmer Brads to the lower right corner.

Noel

This was a fun card and I scraplifted the design from what was printed in the book. I cut the circle and used a blending pen with the Pacifica stamp pad to create the dot border. Then trimmed the border with sparkles. The snowflake stamp is centered and popped up over a Chocolate swirl-y stamp from the "Holiday Trinkets" set. Finally, the line border was hand drawn using a Chocolate marker.

Merry Christmas

This was a simple card using only 2 stamps. The gift border was sponge inked using sponge daubers in Pacifica and Lagoon then stamped just above the paper. Then the Merry Christmas was stamped and a single sparkle was used to highlight the dot in the letter "I". Next, I added 2 larger sparkles to balance out the layout.

Wishing You...

Again, another simple card (sometimes those are the best, you know). However, with this one I chose to stamp the sentiment "Wishing You..." by masking so I could place it on 2 lines. I covered the square with liquid adhesive (a glue pen), applied Prisma Glitter, and popped it up using foam tape. The single large Shimmer Brad at the bottom helps balance out the large sentiment at the top.

Joy to the World

This card is using the large ornament from "Holiday Trinkets" as a focus. The image was 2nd generation stamped using Lagoon ink and then layered with a swirl-y pattern in 1st generation Lagoon ink. Did you notice this is the same swirl-y pattern used in the Noel card? I traced the swirl with Liquid Glass and glitter-fied the edges using the Prisma Glitter.

Snowflake

This is one of my favorite cards! I love this technique with the band closing the card. I placed a brad on the tab to draw attention. The snowflake at the top was stamped in Sky ink and sparkles were added. I also created a glitter border using Prisma glitter. It gives such as icy feel...just like snow. At least what this Florida girl knows about snow.

Large Ornament

This card was created using the Pacifica stamp pad and the border and ornament stamps. Keep in mind that even though a stamp may be intended as a layer for another stamp (in this case as a decoration for the ornament), think outside of the box and use it as a border. After the ornament was stamped, I covered it with Liquid Glass and let it dry overnight. I have been debating whether or not to "break" the Liquid Glass and create a crackled ornament.

Great Little One

This is my 2nd favorite card. I like it because of the generational sentiment and the trees. First, I stamped the trees in Sky ink and cut them out. Two of them were popped up using foam tape and the other 2 adhered. Then I traced the swirls in one tree and dotted the other with Liquid Glass. Both of these create dimension on a rather flat card (althought the Liquid Glass is hard to see in the photo). Since I had such a large area to cover above the trees, I decided to repeat my sentiment. Using Chocolate ink, I first stamped 2 times on a scratch piece of paper and applied a 3rd generation stamp to the top. Then I 2nd generationed the next line, then 1st generation, then 2nd, then 3rd and so on until I ran out of room. I also glitter-fied (is that my new favorite word?) the border and popped the whole thing up on foam tape.

Deck the Halls

The center accent was created using another layering stamp for the large ornament (from "Holiday Trinkets"). I stamped the stars in Sky and then stamped the sentiment in Pacifica over the top. I traced the sentiment with Liquid Glass and placed 3 sparkles to add a little bling. Don't forget, groups of odd numbers are pleasing to the eye.

Have Yourself

This card uses the same sponge dauber technique as the Merry Christmas card, except I used Sky and Lagoon ink. I added 3 sparkles to the dots that were part of the stamped image. The sentiment "Have Yourself" was stamped using a masking technique in order to fit it on 2 lines.

Don't forget about the insides of cards and the envelopes! After you finished creating your cards, take a moment and use some of the sentiments included in the stamp sets to create the inside of your card. Below is an example of how I embellished (quickly) the inside of a card.

November Stamp of the Month

November's Stamp of the Month called "A Little Thanks" is a set of 16 stamps revolving around gratitude.

This set is great when creating thank you cards. I, for one, always have trouble coming up with a nice sentiment for inside the card. "A Little Thanks" takes care of that problem by including sentiments such as "Once again, like so many times before, your generosity astounds."

The set also includes icon stamps for the front of the card - like "thank you", "gratitude", and "just a little note".

6x6 Mini Book Workshop

October Stamp of the Month

4th of July Layout

I love this layout because of it's simplicity...solid colored cardstock, pattern paper, 4 photos, and a few embellishments. I think this layout took all of 15 minutes to put together. The bulk of the time was stamping the chipboard title. I randomly stamped images from the My Acrylix "Boom!" stamp set to keep the letters from looking so stark against the dark background paper.

All of the photos were cropped to 4"x4" squares from regular 4"x6" photos. A simple cardstock paper strip (Cranberry) divides the pattern paper from the background paper and gives a place for the eye to "rest". That keeps the busy pattern paper under control. I also added some glitter to a few of the words in the pattern paper. This technique is a great way to highlight what the event was all about. In this case, party, sparklers, fireworks, and friends summed up what our 4th of July was all about. It is hard to see in the photo how the glitter attracts the eye, but when flipping through the album it is definately noticeable.

"Good Times" Layout

Here I created a layout about my son transitioning from a crib to a toddler bed. This particular layout gave me some trouble - a scrapper's block you might say. So, it sat undone for almost a year before I looked at it again and tried something new.

I had my photos printed, but couldn't figure out how to lay them out with out looking too crowded. I had just purchase the new Imagine How-To book so I found a layout that fit the number of photos I used. You may have noticed that I have used several patterns from Imagine lately.

You may also have noticed that this is the same pattern as the Zippidee layout posted earlier this month. All I did is swap the pages, change the paper, and add different accents. It's kind of hard to tell at first glance I used the same pattern - that's what makes the How-To books so versatile!

I used Cocoa grosgrain ribbon to create the double border on both pages. I also second-generation stamped a background on the title block using the Connections stamp set. You may be able to see it better in the close-up photo of that page later in this post.

12-month and 3-month memberships

These memberships entitle you to receive up to 10 layouts a month at 50% off retail (only $6.50/layout), a low-res JPG file of each layout (perfect for sharing), free memory protectors, and free shipping each month (minimum of 4 layouts). A member also has access to exclusive layout patterns, paper packs, and specials. A "Zippidee" Layout

My son loves bathtime and after bathtime enjoys pretending to be a wide range of things with his towel. I captured the fun of this typical bath night using the Zippidee paper pack. The circle pattern emulates bubbles and lends to the feel of the layout.

The colors are bright and cheery which fits my son's personality and imagination. I used a pattern from the Imagine How-To book and added the small photo on the lower right by cropping down a 4"x6" photo. I used Liquid Glass to fill-in several circles in the background paper and the blue punched circles. I also dotted the Liquid Glass around the title just like water droplets. It is hard to see in the photos, but the liquid glass gives those circles a glossy look - just like bath bubbles! All in all this was a quick and eay layout using 4"x6" photos, minimal paper cutting, and a few embellsihments. I had it completed in less than 30 minutes!
